PEER WRITING SUMMER PROGRAM Take a Teen WEB Team GRADUATION COUNTDOWn COMMUNITY

Programs

Teenagers! Are you tired of your views seeming as if they don't matter? Does it ever seem like people don't get it, or they don't care? Or maybe you simply desire to be around people who share your passion for writing and art, and the unique challenges you face as a teenager today. At VOX Teen Communications, it's all about teens and what we have to say. Here's how:

VOX Teen Newspaper
More than 110 teens work together to create Atlanta's only city-wide, teen-run forum for free expression and information-sharing. VOX is read by about 80,000 people each month during the school year, most of whom tell us they make positive changes in their lives as a result of reading peers' stories.

Peer Writing Groups
Teens at VOX have organized several writing programs that offer creative outlets in Acrobat
comfortable, safe environment. Each year, teens organize the Epiphany Girls Group
(check back in October for an application).

"Raise Your Voice" Summer Program
This program unites 15 local teens in a four-week internship designed to usher metro Atlanta youth into journalism and community leadership. Participants get to work with mentors from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and freelance stories for professional media, while practicing diversity appreciation and conflict reduction.

VOX Web Team
Teens works together to create and maintain this Web site, expressing the voices of Atlanta-area youth online.

Graduation Countdown
Are you stressed about the SAT, those dreaded college applications, finances or other parts of life after high school? Graduation Countdown is a peer support group is dedicated to teens assisting each other with goals for succeeding in high school and after graduation. Teens at VOX also get to work with mentors in many career fields through job-shadowing, coaching in our newsroom, field trips and workshops.

Community Building and Workshops
In partnership with local schools and community groups, VOX brings self-expression activities to more than 200 more teens per year. Our workshops include a wide range of topics, like poetry, photography, journalism and art. What makes our workshops unique is that they are often co-facilitated by VOX teen staff members. VOX teens are also active in diversity training and community service projects that help teens reflect on their roles as participants in civil society, reducing prejudices and building tolerance, understanding and self-esteem.

Teen Resource Guide
TeenResourceATL.Org is a resource guide for Atlanta teens that provides information on resources for self-help in the community and their “teen-friendliness.”
